M/E is made up of several groups in order to
provide the finest possible products at any price.
We are proud to be associated with CAMM Inc.,
for all our drivers, crossovers and technology
consultation.

CAMM Inc.
(Custom Audio Manufacturing of Maine)
Partners, James Banfield and Chris Perron,
who had worked together for another company,
NEAR, created CAMM a few years ago.
At NEAR they learned how different technologies
worked and interacted with each other.
They worked directly with the drivers and production
of the product. Over the years they fine tuned their
skills and discovered just what the drivers were
capable of. When NEAR closed the production plant
in the US, James and Chris decided to take the knowledge
and skills they had acquired and continue to produce
quality drivers and cabinets right here in the US.
They use two proprietary technologies,
MFCS (Magnetic Fluid Centering System) and
ACAD (Anodized Ceramic Aluminum Diaphragms).

MFCS
(Magnetic Fluid Centering System)
A "spider" in a typical speaker driver is used to
center the voice coil in the magnetic gap and
also to limit the excursions of the voice coil and
cone. There are many drawbacks to the spider.
The spider adds distortion and spectral
contamination. This distortion occurs because
the spider can act like a small cone within itself.
It passes the sound it creates back through the
cone, thus adding an unwanted distortion that
the original signal did not possess.
CAMM uses a patented method to avoid using a
spider, MFCS. This system adds a magnetic fluid
to the magnetic gap. Adding the fluid has many benefits.
It acts as a heat sink and dissipates the heat
from the voice coil to the magnet structure.
Longer excursions are possible because the
spider is eliminated. Nearly perfect centering
is achieved by the nature of the constant
magnetic fluid forces at work.

ACAD
(Anodized Ceramic Aluminum Diaphragms)
CAMM uses a special proprietary method to
anodize the aluminum cone. This process
strengthens the metal and also dampens it to
create a sound that is pure.
The result is a light and stiff cone - as light
and rigid as can be produced. Another
advantage of using a metal cone is that it
works as a heat sink for the voice coil.
Using an ACAD design is ideal for outdoor
and harsh environment.
The aluminum can withstand almost any
weather condition you can throw at it,
heat, salt and ice - no rocks though please.

Basket
The less the basket and other parts of the driver and
cabinet vibrate the better. CAMM uses a cast
aluminum frame. This type of frame is stronger and
more rigid than the typical stamped frame. The more
rigid the frame the less vibration will travel back through
the cone and distort the sound.
Using a cast frame holds the magnet structure
solid and centered with the voice coil.

Magnet Structure
CAMM uses a much larger magnet structure than
most companies. The larger magnet produces
a higher level of magnetic flux. This higher
flux holds the MFCS in place adding more
linearity and control to the cone and voice coil.

Surround
CAMM uses a rubber surround. Salt spray, sun,
and chlorine can have an adverse effect on
the product.
CAMM has discovered which compounds to
use to withstand these harsh conditions.

Voice Coil
Heat is one thing that destroys loudspeakers.
CAMM has gone to great lengths to dissipate
the heat that the voice coil produces.
They use anodized aluminum formers.
The aluminum transfers the heat
that is created, dissipates it through the fluid,
and then throughout the cone and magnet structure.

CAMM's drivers have been tested under the harshest
conditions. They can go through year after year of
torture and still sound fantastic. For marine use,
cabinets made of traditional weather resistant woods
used on yachts is recommended.
